Nam Tae Hyun, an ex-member of the boy band WINNER, is once again making headlines for driving under the influence of alcohol.
The Yongsan Police Station in Seoul reported on May 8 that Nam was charged and is currently being investigated for breaking road traffic regulations related to drunk driving.
The incident in question occurred on April 27 at approximately 4:10 AM when Nam allegedly collided with a central divider close to Dongjak Bridge on the Gangbyeonbuk-ro highway as he was trying to overtake another vehicle en route to Ilsan.
Although no one was harmed, reports reveal that Nam's blood alcohol level at the time of the crash exceeded the legal limit for driving (0.08% or higher).
A request for an arrest warrant was submitted on May 2, yet the court rejected it on the 7th, citing insufficient grounds for detention. It is anticipated that the authorities will proceed with the case shortly without detaining Nam.
Last January, Nam Tae Hyun was sentenced to a 10-month prison term, which was then suspended for two years, for violating the Narcotics Control Act. He was also fined 6 million KRW (about 4,269 USD) in March 2023 after being involved in a drunk driving incident during a drug-related inquiry.
In response to this latest controversy, Korean internet users commented on various media platforms, with many expressing little surprise at the news. Their comments included remarks such as "People don't easily change their ways" and "I'm not shocked."
