Lee Chang Sub, the husband of 41-year-old actress Lim Sung Eon, who serves as the chairman of Seokjeong Urban Development at 55 years old, has vehemently refuted accusations of fraud and expressed his exasperation.
In response to recent claims made by The Fact on May 27, Chairman Lee Chang Sub dismissed the controversy as an unfounded and malicious assault orchestrated by business associates with conflicting agendas through specific media channels. He labelled it as an orchestrated and invasive breach of privacy.
Previously, Dispatch had reported that Lee Chang Sub had three previous convictions for fraudulent activities. In 2007, he allegedly misled investors in Daejeon by falsely asserting that a commercial property sale was finalized. The report further alleged that he manipulated the regional housing cooperative business model in six different areas, triggering lawsuits totaling over 10 billion KRW (7.3 million USD) in two areas, including Osan in Gyeonggi Province and Osong in North Chungcheong Province.
Confronting these accusations, Lee Chang Sub clarified that despite his past marriage and criminal history, the rest of the claims were unfounded. He attributed his conviction to unintentional violations of the Housing Act while engaging in real estate activities and refuted claims of theft or dishonorable conduct.
As a general chairman of seven corporations, Lee remarked that he bears full responsibility in the face of any issues. Dismissing the reports as malicious, he argued against the portrayal of investment fraud via housing cooperatives.
Lee also highlighted his wife Lim Sung Eon's distress over the situation and defended her celebrity status from attempts to tarnish her reputation. Dismissing rumors of a travel ban, he clarified that their travel plans to Jeju and Europe were underway, and emphasized that his convict personal history revolved around the complexity of legal disputes in his line of business.
Actress Lim Sung Eon, who debuted in 2002 and gained fame through various shows, tied the knot with Chairman Lee on May 17. The fraud allegations surfaced a week after their wedding.
