Tina Knowles shared a distressing account about a violent police incident involving her brother that instilled fear in her family for many years.

In her book Matriarch, Tina Knowles recounted a traumatic episode of police brutality where her brother Skip was assaulted by officers in 1967 after being mistakenly thought of as a trespasser. Skip, who was trying to return home after a date, was dropped off at the wrong house by a taxi driver near his own residence. The homeowner, unaware of who he was, called the police leading to his arrest, despite the mistake being realized later when Tina's mother was contacted.

Tina described the anguish of her family as they witnessed Skip being taken into custody, with her mother pleading desperately for his safety. When released the next day, Skip bore visible injuries, leaving the family fearful as they thought he could have been killed. This terrifying experience left her parents in a constant state of anxiety and fear.

The trauma didn't stop there, according to Tina. The family endured ongoing harassment from law enforcement, resulting in a heightened sense of vigilance at all times. Matriarch is now available for purchase.
