Director Kang Hyoung Chul addressed the controversy surrounding actor Yoo Ah In's role in the upcoming action-comedy film 'HI-FIVE', stressing that the project is a collaborative effort. During a press screening and media conference at CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall in Seoul, Kang emphasized that the film was a collective endeavor that involved the dedication of numerous individuals.

Kang praised the ensemble cast's performances and the film's energetic and sincere vibe, mentioning that despite concerns about the controversy, he believes in the film's strength and the cast's passionate acting capabilities to mitigate any risks.

'HI-FIVE' narrates the story of five characters who acquire special powers post organ transplants and unite to confront those trying to exploit them. Yoo Ah In portrays the character Gi Dong, a laid-back tech-savvy person with the ability to control electronics effortlessly.

The director shared that Yoo provided input during costume fittings, showcasing a good understanding of his character's style and offering valuable suggestions. Actor Ahn Jae Hong discussed a poignant scene involving a kiss between his and Yoo Ah In's characters, describing it as a key moment symbolizing emotional reconciliation.

Yoo Ah In is currently embroiled in legal issues related to alleged drug abuse. He received a one-year prison sentence, suspended for two years, in the initial trial for the charges of using propofol and illegally obtaining sleeping pills under another person's name. The prosecution has appealed the verdict to the Supreme Court, and a final decision is pending.

Despite the controversy, 'HI-FIVE' is scheduled for release on the 30th. The film's ability to captivate audiences with its narrative and performances, notwithstanding Yoo Ah In's legal challenges, remains to be seen.
