The trend of altcoin season in 2025 appears to be unfolding in a new and more uncertain manner. Despite a brief surge in altcoin prices, experts believe that these smaller cycles will continue to occur before a more widespread and sustained shift happens.

There has been a significant decrease in Bitcoin dominance, with altcoins starting to perform better than BTC in the short term. However, the shift is still selective, indicating that the upcoming altcoin season might prioritize projects with solid foundations and execution instead of lifting the entire market as seen in previous cycles.

As Bitcoin dominance has fallen to its lowest level since March 31, capital is moving away from Bitcoin and towards altcoins, thereby weakening BTC's share in the total crypto market cap. This shift in dominance typically signals the start of an altcoin season, where smaller cryptocurrencies tend to outperform Bitcoin.

While there has been a recent surge in altcoin market cap, the CoinMarketCap Altcoin Season Index has decreased, indicating that most altcoins are still underperforming compared to Bitcoin. This shows that although money is flowing into altcoins, it is not yet widespread or strong enough across the top 100 assets to trigger a full-fledged altcoin season.
