Tatsumeeko, a blockchain game that attracted significant investment from crypto backers, has suddenly halted its development. Despite securing $7.5 million in funding in 2022, the project did not come to fruition in the end.

The game’s community of fans reacted strongly to this abrupt news, with some long-standing investors even suspecting foul play. Although the developers have already started work on a new game, the studio is not shutting down entirely.

Tatsumeeko's development drew interest at the outset with its concept of community gaming on the blockchain. Early backers included prominent names like Binance Labs (now YZi Labs), Animoca, DeFinance Capital, and key angel investors such as a Twitch co-founder.

The announcement confirming the cancellation of the project lacked specifics on the reasons behind the decision. Instead, the focus was on the immediate start of a new project called Project: Wander, which will emphasize community engagement through Discord.

The response from the community when the news broke on social media was largely critical, with some accusing the team of engaging in fraudulent practices. However, the team behind Tatsumeeko actively engaged with upset supporters, addressing their concerns.

One of the challenges faced during Tatsumeeko’s development was the setting of overly ambitious goals. While the emphasis was on community involvement through Discord, exploring GameFi potential on Telegram caused a divide in focus that contributed to the abandonment of the main game.

Concerns were raised about the resources invested in Tatsumeeko, including the seed funding and participation in various in-game activities. The announcement promised a transition of users’ assets into new forms of value in the upcoming project.

Although the fate of the blockchain GameFi protocol Ronin in relation to the new game remains uncertain, the future game, Project: Wander, is expected to offer a different experience. The closure of Tatsumeeko comes after a period of declining activity, leading to today's announcement that left many fans cautious but hopeful for what the future holds.
