An icon in the field, particularly praised for her role as a mother-in-law in the popular drama 'Couple Clinic - Love and War,' Jang Mija's legacy spans over six decades.
As confirmed by the Korean Broadcasting Actors’ Union, Jang Mija succumbed to a lingering illness on the 27th. Survived by her husband, the esteemed voice actor and actor Park Woong, and their two sons, the family is currently receiving condolences at the funeral home.
With a career that commenced in 1959, Jang Mija embarked on her journey in the limelight through stage performances. Her contributions to DBS Dong-A Broadcasting marked her entry into the world of voice acting in 1963, eventually emerging as a luminary in KBS’s sixth generation, owing to media evolution.
Throughout her remarkable career, which spanned 66 years, she captivated audiences with her roles in acclaimed dramas like 'The Second Republic,' 'Love and War,' 'Man in Crisis,' 'Sons of Sol Pharmacy,' 'Dazzling,' and 'Kingderland.'
Beyond her TV appearances, Jang Mija's passion extended to the theater domain. Engaged in the Theater Actors’ Association, she spearheaded the theater group 'Samgaksan,' contributing memorable performances to plays such as 'The Bird That Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,' 'Drying Peppers,' 'Golden Pond,' and 'Human Time.'
Known for her collaborative prowess, she frequently shared the stage with her husband, Park Woong, featuring in noteworthy productions such as 'Living in Golden Pond' and 'Dancing Silver Portrait.'
To pay respects, the funeral arrangements are hosted at Seoul National University Hospital Funeral Hall 4, with the funeral service scheduled for 6:00 AM on the 29th, followed by burial at Seoul City Crematorium.
