NiziU Takes Japan by Storm with First Japanese Mini Album ‘AWAKE’
NiziU has achieved remarkable success on Japan’s music charts with the release of their latest Japanese mini album ‘AWAKE’.
Dropping on February 5 along with the title track ‘YOAKE’, the album soared to the top of the Oricon Weekly Combined Album Ranking for February 17, amassing an impressive 191,047 points. This achievement marks NiziU’s fifth consecutive No. 1 on the chart, continuing their winning streak established by hits like ‘Make you happy’, ‘U’, ‘COCONUT’, and ‘RISE UP’.
Adding to their accolades, NiziU clinched their fourth straight No. 1 on the Oricon Weekly Album Ranking, a feat only achieved by two other female groups in history. Their triumph extended to the Oricon Weekly Digital Album Ranking as well, completing a stunning triple crown on Oricon’s weekly charts. The group further dominated Billboard Japan’s charts, seizing the top spots on Top Album Sales, Hot Albums, and Download Albums for the week ending on February 12.
The highly-anticipated ‘AWAKE’ not only showcases NiziU’s musical maturity since their debut in 2020 but also reflects their evolving artistry. Packed with eight tracks, the album boasts standout numbers like ‘AlwayS’, penned and composed by the talented Motoki Ohmori of Mrs. GREEN APPLE, along with unit songs ‘CRUSH’ and ‘Made of Love’.
Amidst their soaring success, NiziU is currently captivating audiences on their inaugural winter tour, delighting fans with 18 captivating shows across eight cities in Japan. Having recently wowed crowds in Miyagi (February 8–9), the group is set to enchant audiences in Aichi (February 15–16) and Fukuoka (February 22–23) next. As a grand finale, NiziU will grace the stage as special guest performers at J.Y. Park’s 30th-anniversary concert ‘Still JYP’ at Tokyo Dome City Hall on February 20.
