2 Chainz Reveals How a $1,000 Debt and a Road Trip Led Him to Lil Wayne
In a recent interview with The Breakfast Club alongside The Alchemist and Larry June to promote their new album Life Is Beautiful, 2 Chainz shared a fascinating story about how his encounter with Lil Wayne came about, thanks to a debt owed by Birdman.
2 Chainz reminisced about his early hustling days in Atlanta, scraping together money for studio time at the renowned Patchwerk Studios. It was at this studio that he crossed paths with Lil Wayne, with the unexpected connection stemming from a debt owed by Birdman.
Recalling the incident, 2 Chainz recounted how he was approached to supply weed to Cash Money artists in the studio, only to find himself unpaid for the product. Determined to reclaim what was owed to him, he embarked on a road trip with the Cash Money crew to New Orleans, seeking to settle the $900 debt.
During his time in New Orleans, 2 Chainz found himself in a mansion filled with Cash Money affiliates, where he had his first interaction with Lil Wayne. Bonding over a smoke session by the indoor pool, the encounter marked the beginning of their connection.
Additionally, 2 Chainz addressed Kendrick Lamar's reference to him in the song "Not Like Us," where Kendrick mentioned Drake conning Atlanta rap artists. Reflecting on the lyric, 2 Chainz interpreted it as more of a wordplay nod to his song with Drake rather than a direct dig at him.
