Renowned Hip-Hop icon Gene “Groove” Allen, a founding member of Groove B. Chill and a beloved figure in House Party, has sadly passed away, leaving a profound mark on the worlds of music and film.

Gene “Groove” Allen, a central figure in the Hip-Hop group Groove B. Chill, has passed away, though the circumstances surrounding his death remain private.

Hailing from the Bronx, the rapper and actor was revered for his significant contributions to both the music industry and the film world, notably for his role in the iconic 1990 movie House Party.

News of Allen’s untimely demise emerged on February 14, when Eric B. honored him on Instagram.

“Received news from Chill about Groove’s passing. Rest in peace, Groove. We will always celebrate your life as the house party lives on. Thank you for the amazing music and movie memories,” Eric B. shared.

DJ Premier also paid his respects, recognizing Allen’s profound influence on both music and cinema. “Deepest condolences. Their music on Uptown and his memorable portrayal in House Party will always be cherished.”

At the time of his passing, Allen was in the final stages of completing an EP named Bring Back The Party, a project crafted to revitalize the vibrant essence of the golden age of Hip-Hop.

Groove B. Chill, the trio that propelled Allen to fame, featured Daryl “Chill” Mitchell and Belal “DJ Belal” Miller by his side.

Their musical journey rose to prominence with the release of Starting From Zero in 1990, an album infused with uplifting, resonant lyrics and production that seamlessly blended with the changing landscape of Hip-Hop.

The album, featuring production from the likes of Pete Rock and Prince Paul, gave birth to the smash hit “Hip Hop Music,” produced by the renowned “Hitman” Howie Tee.

Their appearance in a promotional video for the album paved the way for their unforgettable roles in House Party, with Allen’s infectious on-screen charm as the endearing drunk winning hearts among viewers.

Following his stint in House Party 2, Mitchell transitioned towards acting, achieving success in the field, whereas Allen continued to pursue his passion for rapping and performing.
