Federal Judge denies Sean “Diddy” Combs’ request for hearing on handwritten notes seizure at MDC

In a legal setback for Sean “Diddy” Combs, a federal judge has rejected his plea for an evidentiary hearing concerning the seizure of his personal notes during a Bureau of Prisons sweep at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC).

The incident, which occurred between October 28 and November 1, 2024, saw a BOP investigator photographing 19 pages of Combs' handwritten notes. Despite Diddy's claims of constitutional violations, Judge Arun Subramanian ruled against him.

Following the sweep, a government filter team reviewed and redacted portions of the notes before passing them on to the prosecution. Despite the defense's outcry, the judge sided with the prosecutors, who assured that the seized materials would not be used in Combs' trial.

While the ruling may be seen as a setback for Diddy's legal team, the court did acknowledge the situation as a “misstep,” leaving the possibility for the issue to be raised again if disputed materials are presented at trial.

Currently detained at MDC on federal charges, Sean “Diddy” Combs is scheduled to face trial in May 2025 for allegations unrelated to the notes seizure.
