SM Entertainment Provides Update on Legal Actions Against Defamatory Posts Targeting aespa
SM Entertainment (SM) has recently updated its efforts to combat defamatory and sexually harassing content aimed at aespa.
In a statement released on February 11th KST via KWANGYA 119, SM shared that it has been actively gathering evidence from fan reports and internal monitoring to address malicious posts and comments directed towards aespa. Consequently, the company has taken legal action by filing lawsuits for defamation, insult, and the creation and sharing of manipulated videos.
SM disclosed that numerous suspects have been identified and are currently undergoing investigation, with some cases already forwarded to the prosecution and receiving final court judgments. Noteworthy is that individuals involved in circulating manipulated videos on Telegram have been convicted under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes and have been issued summary orders, including fines.
Emphasizing their unwavering stance against harmful content directed at aespa, both locally and globally, SM reiterated their dedication to pursuing legal measures to safeguard the rights and well-being of their artists. The company concluded by stating, “we will continue to put forth our utmost efforts in defending the rights and interests of our talents.”
