ZEROBASEONE's Gyuvin issued an apology recently, but Korean netizens have come to his defense, asserting that the idol had no need to apologize in the first place.
In a public statement on February 10, Gyuvin expressed regret for a comment he made on a variety program, where he noted the loud cheers from the audience and inadvertently compared them to the fervor of his own fans at concerts.
Feeling the backlash from some fans, Gyuvin penned a heartfelt apology addressing ZEROSE, stating, "I'm really sorry for making you upset with what I said during today's recording... I thought that some of the people who came today might not know us well, but they welcomed us so warmly that I became even more nervous."
Despite his apology, many Korean netizens found it unnecessary, believing that Gyuvin's initial remark was innocuous and did not warrant an apology. Some sympathized with the idol, expressing sentiments such as, "It must be so exhausting to be an idol... Just watching this is suffocating," and "Pathetic... And then there will be a truckload of people saying, 'Well, this always happens in the idol scene,' not even realizing that they, too, are caught up in the same toxic mindset."
Amongst the flurry of reactions, some netizens decried the toxicity within fandoms and the tendency to overanalyze and misinterpret innocent remarks. Overall, the incident sparked discussions on fan culture and the pressures faced by idols in the entertainment industry.
