‘Breathless’ Director and Actor Yang Ik Joon Faces Assault Allegations from Junior Colleague

Seoul Seongbuk Police revealed on February 10 that filmmaker Yang Ik Joon is currently under investigation for assault charges. The incident reportedly took place on December 13, 2024, at a bar owned by Yang Ik Joon in Seongbuk District. Allegations state that he physically attacked A, a member of the film crew, using a bundle of paper and subjected him to verbal abuse. The case was officially filed on December 30 and is now approaching the final stages of investigation, with authorities preparing to hand it over to the prosecution soon.

Yang Ik Joon first gained fame in 2009 with his critically acclaimed film ‘Breathless’, where he showcased his talent as a director, writer, and lead actor. His impressive acting portfolio includes roles in popular TV series like ‘The Innocent Man’, ‘Inspiring Generation’, ‘It's Okay, That's Love’, ‘The Scholar Who Walks the Night’, ‘Queen of Mystery’, ‘Bad Guys: City of Evil’, ‘To Jenny’, ‘Hellbound’, and ‘Hellbound Season 2’. In addition, he has made appearances in notable films such as ‘The Fake’, ‘Juri’, ‘Our Homeland’, ‘Canola’, ‘The Poet and the Boy’, and ‘La La La’.

Despite the ongoing controversy, Yang Ik Joon is gearing up for his role in the upcoming suspense thriller ‘Confession’, slated for release on February 19. The movie revolves around two friends stranded by a sudden snowstorm during a mountain trek. As the character Ji Yong faces mortality from an injury, he discloses a shocking secret to Asai, setting off a gripping series of events. With a press preview scheduled for February 12, all eyes are now on whether Yang Ik Joon will make an appearance in light of the recent allegations.
