Actors from the iconic film 'Joint Security Area JSA' recently opened up about their decision to join the project led by the then-rookie director, Park Chan Wook.

A special guest viewing event for 'Joint Security Area JSA' took place at the Park Chan Wook Theater in CGV Yongsan I-PARK Mall, Seoul, to commemorate CJ ENM’s 30th anniversary 'Visionary' selection. The event was graced by Director Park Chan Wook and renowned actors Song Kang Ho, Lee Byung Hun, Lee Young Ae, and Kim Tae Woo.

When reflecting on the making of 'Joint Security Area JSA' in the late 90s, Director Park Chan Wook revealed the challenges they faced due to the strict enforcement of the National Security Act. Despite the risks involved, he persisted with the project, driven by a sense of urgency. Fortunately, the political landscape shifted by the time of the film's release, allowing it to make a profound impact without legal repercussions.

Sharing a light-hearted moment, Park humorously recounted the struggles he and Lee Byung Hun faced before finding success with the film. Lee Byung Hun also humorously recalled his initial skepticism about the project, highlighting the unlikely but successful collaboration between the two.

Despite initial reservations, the actors were deeply moved by the film's final scene, with Lee Byung Hun stating that it marked a significant shift in his career identity. Likewise, Song Kang Ho confessed to initially doubting the script but ultimately trusting Director Park Chan Wook's vision.

The film, recognized by CJ ENM as a pioneering work in Korean cinema, continues to hold a special place in the industry's history. Its portrayal of inter-Korean relations and the human experience of division resonated with audiences and solidified Park Chan Wook's reputation as a globally acclaimed director.
