The team behind the new daily drama 'Queen’s House' on KBS2TV has issued an apology in response to public backlash regarding a line in the first episode that was seen as disrespectful towards public education.

The apology was posted on the show’s website on May 2, expressing regret for the controversy sparked by the line in Episode 1 that viewers found offensive.

While emphasizing that they did not intend to undermine public institutions, the production team clarified that the character Kang Jae In sending her son to a public kindergarten was meant to portray trust in such establishments.

As a result of the outcry, the first episode has been taken down from major platforms. The team assured that the problematic dialogue would be removed, and the episode would be reuploaded after editing on platforms like the KBS website, VOD services, and Wavve.

The National Union of Public Kindergarten Teachers had strongly criticized the drama earlier, expressing concern that it portrayed public kindergartens in a negative light, potentially damaging public confidence in the education system.

The union condemned the show for associating public kindergartens with child abduction and depicting them as a "cheap choice," which they argued could fuel prejudice against early public education.

They urged creators of future productions to be more mindful in their portrayal of public education and institutions, stressing the importance of accurate representation.

In the initial episode of 'Queen’s House' broadcasted on April 28, the storyline involved the kidnapping of Kang Jae In’s son, leading to a scene where one character implies that choosing a public kindergarten led to the abduction, sparking criticism from viewers.

'Queen’s House' revolves around a revenge plot, following the journey of a woman whose life is unexpectedly disrupted, setting her on a path seeking retribution.
