Alijah Arenas, the son of former NBA star Gilbert Arenas, is currently in critical condition following a serious car accident in Los Angeles, which has put his bright basketball career at risk.
The 18-year-old son of Gilbert Arenas, a former NBA All-Star, sustained life-threatening injuries in a car crash that occurred in Los Angeles in the early hours of Thursday.
The crash left the young basketball talent, who had committed to playing for USC, in critical condition, raising concerns about his promising sports career.
Reportedly, the incident took place at around 4:55 a.m. on April 24 on Corbin Avenue in the Reseda neighborhood.
Arenas was driving a Tesla Cybertruck when it collided with a fire hydrant and a tree, resulting in the truck catching fire and sustaining significant damage.
Emergency responders rescued Arenas from the wreckage and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was put into a medically induced coma due to the seriousness of his injuries.
Currently, he is still in a serious condition.
Arenasis is widely recognized as one of the top high school basketball players in the country.
Having reclassified to the class of 2025, the five-star recruit had committed to USC after turning down offers from prestigious programs such as Kentucky, Kansas, Arizona, and Louisville.
At Chatsworth High School, he made history by being the first player in LA City Section to surpass 3,000 career points in just three varsity seasons and led his team to successive CIF State final appearances and a regional title.
Arenas was honored as co-City Player of the Year, received the High School SI’s SoCal Offensive Player of the Year award, and scored 11 points in the 2025 McDonald’s All-American Game.
His sudden hospitalization has shocked the basketball community, as many believed he had the potential to become a future NBA star.
