Billy McFarland decided to postpone the highly anticipated Fyre Festival 2 due to concerns about its legitimacy and venue that led to confusion among authorities in Mexico.
Attendees who had purchased tickets were informed that the event was being delayed, and they would receive refunds. Once a new date is set, they can repurchase tickets if it fits their plans.
Originally planned to take place from May 30 to June 2 on Isla Mujeres, a Mexican island, the event offered ticket packages ranging from $1,400 to an astonishing $1 million.
Shortly after tickets went on sale in February, the festival encountered difficulties. Edgar Gasca, a representative of Isla Mujeres’ tourism office, disputed the existence of the event, contradicting McFarland's assertions that he had obtained approval from local and state authorities.
McFarland, who previously served time for wire fraud related to the first Fyre Festival, defended himself on social media, stating that his team had maintained contact with government authorities to ensure compliance and a successful event that would benefit the local economy.
The initial Fyre Festival, marketed as a luxurious music retreat in the Bahamas, descended into disarray in 2017, leaving attendees stranded and McFarland facing legal charges. After pleading guilty, he spent more than four years in prison. As of now, no new date has been confirmed for Fyre Festival 2.
