After a hiatus of almost four years following the end of 'The Penthouse 3,' Eugene has confirmed her next project.
As reported by TenAsia on April 17, Eugene will star in the forthcoming MBN drama 'First Lady.' This marks her highly-anticipated comeback to the screen since the conclusion of 'The Penthouse 3' in September 2021.
'First Lady' revolves around the contentious divorce battle between the South Korean President and the First Lady. The show delves into themes of betrayal, conspiracy, and truths emerging during a power struggle. Through the separation of a former power couple, the drama examines the concepts of desire and marriage. Ji Hyun Woo will play the male lead opposite Eugene. Despite their long careers since debuting in 2001, this will be their first collaboration, creating excitement for this new on-screen pairing.
Having started her career in 1997 with the girl group S.E.S., Eugene gained popularity and was even dubbed "Korea's Olivia Hussey." Her on-screen romance with Ki Tae Young, co-star in the 2009 drama 'Creating Destiny,' blossomed into a real-life relationship and culminated in marriage in 2011. The couple has two daughters, born in 2015 and 2018. Eugene showcased her family life on the variety show 'The Return of Superman' in 2015, emphasizing her commitment to both acting and parenting.
Eugene's acting journey began in 2001 with the Lunar New Year special 'Singers’ Fairy Tales,' leading to successful projects like 'Loving You,' 'Save the Last Dance for Me,' 'Bread, Love and Dreams,' 'A Hundred Year Legacy,' and 'All About My Mom.' Her portrayal of Oh Yoon Hee in the 'Penthouse' series from 2020 became a defining role in her career.
In addition to a brief appearance in Netflix’s 'Love to Hate You' in 2023, Eugene has been less active in recent times.
