When Lil Wayne was urged by the NFL to increase his public presence in order to secure a spot in the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show, he believed he was being groomed for the performance. However, the NFL later apologized and chose Kendrick Lamar instead.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Lil Wayne revealed that he felt the NFL was guiding him towards the prestigious halftime show opportunity by advising him on how to conduct himself at various events. Despite following their suggestions and making appearances at prominent gatherings, including collaborating with Tom Brady, Lil Wayne was informed afterwards that Lamar was selected instead.

Although initially disappointed by the decision, Lil Wayne disclosed that a representative from the league explained that they were not the ultimate decision-makers for the halftime show, which is curated by Roc Nation under Jay-Z's leadership, a close confidant of Wayne.

Upon reflection, Lil Wayne accepted the outcome and reached out to Lamar to offer support and clarify any misunderstandings. He also clarified that a social media post referencing "Let this giant sleep" was not directed at Lamar, whom he had no intention of offending.

Despite the initial disappointment, Lil Wayne expressed understanding and emphasized that he harbors no ill feelings towards Lamar or Jay-Z.
