Actor Yoo Seung Ho has landed his first regular role in a TV variety show, a significant accomplishment in his career 25 years after his debut.
A press conference took place on April 17 at Stanford Hotel in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, to introduce JTBC’s latest reality variety show 'Confrontation! Pangbong Pungbong.'
The show centers around renowned comedians Lee Bong Won and Paeng Hyun Sook, who use their extensive experience in running restaurants to compete in a captivating culinary challenge. Located on a secluded island overseas, each sets up their own restaurant—Bong’s Kitchen and Paeng’s Kitchen—and vies to attract globetrotters. PD Lee Jin Joo, known for successful projects like Youn’s Kitchen, Transit Love, and Romantic Siblings, helms the show with a fresh and engaging premise.
Paeng Hyun Sook, managing a sundae soup eatery in Namyangju for two decades, and Lee Bong-won, running a jjambbong restaurant in Cheonan for seven years, bring genuine dedication and perseverance to the series. Their business ups and downs are poised to be showcased as they compete together.
Joining them as an assistant is Yoo Seung-ho, who, though not recognized for comedy, pledges his full commitment to aid Paeng Hyun Sook and Choi Yang Rak.
Yoo Seung Ho shared, “I haven’t always declined variety shows. I felt that humorous, lively personalities were more suited for them, and I didn’t view myself that way. However, PD Lee Jin Joo assured me that I didn’t need to be funny or talk much—just put in the effort. That encouraged me to give it a shot.”
PD Lee justified casting Yoo Seung Ho, “I saw him on YouTube. He wasn’t aiming to be funny, but his natural charm shone through. He is caring and possesses qualities that viewers will appreciate. I assured him that being funny is not mandatory.”
'Confrontation! Pangbong Pungbong’ debuts on JTBC on April 19 at 7:10 PM KST.
