Diddy has enlisted Young Thug's lawyer, Brian Steel, onto his legal team in an effort to delay his upcoming federal trial. Sean "Diddy" Combs has included Steel in his defense team for his trial on sex trafficking and racketeering charges in Manhattan next month. Steel, known for his aggressive defense strategies in the YSL RICO case, has officially filed to practice in the Southern District of New York to represent the embattled Hip-Hop mogul. With jury selection set to begin on May 5, Steel joins the existing legal team of Marc Agnifilo and Teny Geragos following the departure of Anthony Ricco in February. Steel's reputation for vigorous courtroom tactics and commitment to client confidentiality came into the spotlight in Georgia during Young Thug's trial, where he was held in contempt for refusing to disclose leaked information sources. The addition of Steel to the defense team comes amid efforts to delay the trial by two weeks, citing the need to review approximately 200,000 emails and other materials yet to be provided by federal prosecutors. The defense argues that crucial evidence, such as emails from an alleged victim and WhatsApp messages, is still outstanding. While Judge Arun Subramanian granted the defense 48 hours to file a formal motion for postponement, prosecutors accused them of trying to delay the proceedings through "gamesmanship." Despite this, Combs' lawyers emphasized the necessity of a brief delay to ensure proper discovery is conducted. Combs, who has been in custody since his arrest in September 2024, appeared in court on Monday to plead not guilty to two additional charges recently added, bringing the total to five counts including racketeering, sex trafficking, and transporting individuals for prostitution. The trial is scheduled to commence on May 5, pending the court's decision on the requested postponement.
