Cortez Lyles released a track after a conflict occurred on the football field. As a defensive back for Heritage High School in Conyers, Georgia, Cortez was part of a disagreement that turned into a more significant issue.

In response to the altercation, the 18-year-old created a diss track that he shared on Instagram. Against his family's advice not to respond physically to the teammate who he claims attacked him, Cortez used music to voice his frustrations. According to Fox5 Atlanta, Cortez's father, Nachez Lyles, asserts that his son is the one wronged in the incident.

Cortez's mother, Shandela McKnight, questioned the expectation for her son to return to school and fight back physically. She mentioned that Cortez returned home with a visible bruise on his forehead following the incident.

Although the diss track featured intense lyrics like "beat his ass" and "get a body bag," which resulted in legal repercussions, Cortez's parents argue that the lyrics were not meant to be taken seriously. Nachez Lyles likened the situation to rap rivalries in the music industry, such as those between Kendrick Lamar and Drake, highlighting that diss tracks are a customary aspect of Hip-Hop culture and are generally not actual threats. He stated that interpreting Cortez's lyrics literally was unjust.

Nevertheless, Cortez now faces misdemeanor charges related to the song. His parents aim to settle the issue by communicating with the other family involved.
