Lucid Group, based in California, announced its acquisition of specific facilities and assets in Arizona that were previously owned by bankrupt Nikola Corp, a manufacturer of electric and hydrogen-powered trucks. The purchase does not involve Nikola's business, customers, or technology related to its hydrogen fuel cell electric trucks. Lucid intends to offer jobs to over 300 former Nikola employees at the Arizona sites. Nikola, headquartered in Phoenix, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. After filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in February, Nikola decided to sell its assets due to challenges like low demand, rapid cash depletion, and funding issues. The company faced safety concerns and recalls following fire incidents involving its electric trucks. Trevor Milton, Nikola's founder who was sentenced to prison for fraud, was recently pardoned by former U.S. President Donald Trump.
