Expert Analysis Suggests BMW Spartanburg Plant in US May Add Additional Shifts
/Article

BMW executives mentioned on a call with analysts that they are contemplating increasing production at their Spartanburg plant in South Carolina by up to 80,000 units to address the escalating trade war concerns and comply with the Trump administration's demands. They also noted that the company has a significant inventory in the U.S., and they plan to maintain stable prices for most American models until the end of May. The investor call took place before the closed period leading up to the release of annual results on May 7. BMW's Spartanburg facility, which exports half of its vehicles overseas, operates within a duty-free zone, allowing them to avoid tariffs on imported parts used for vehicles intended for export. The information was provided in a note by Bernstein Research. BMW has not yet issued any further comments on this matter.
