Vietnamese low-cost airline Vietjet revealed on Thursday that it has finalized a $300 million agreement with AV AirFinance, a partner of investment firm KKR, to support the growth of its aircraft fleet. The announcement follows a previous report by Reuters on the finance deal, which was agreed upon during the visit of Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc to the U.S. for tariff negotiations. Initially reported at $200 million, this agreement with AV AirFinance adds to a series of financing deals amounting to $4 billion that Vietjet has secured with American partners. Vietjet's existing agreement to purchase 200 Boeing 737 MAX jets, originally penned in 2016 and revised during Trump's visit to Vietnam in 2019, is yet to see any deliveries. However, the airline anticipates receiving its first batch of jets this year and is in discussions to potentially expand the order. Reuters also mentioned that Vietjet is exploring the possibility of acquiring 20 wide-body Boeing 787 planes.
