Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc of Vietnam is scheduled to meet with U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and hold discussions with officials from Boeing, SpaceX, and Apple this week in an attempt to address the issue of the 46% tariffs imposed by the Trump administration on Vietnam’s exports to the U.S. The purpose of the meetings is to explore the possibility of revising the tariffs, as Vietnam is heavily dependent on exports to the U.S., constituting about 30% of its GDP. The Vietnamese delegation has made efforts to negotiate with the U.S., proposing a delay in the implementation of reciprocal tariffs and expressing openness to a zero-tariff agreement. The U.S. has raised concerns about Vietnam's trade surplus with them and various trade practices. Meetings are set to take place in Washington, with Deputy Prime Minister Phoc also scheduled to meet with Boeing executives and attend the signing of an agreement between Vietjet and investment fund KKR.
