The President of the EU Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, urged China to work together towards resolving issues arising from the hefty import tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump. During a phone conversation with China's Prime Minister Li Qiang, von der Leyen emphasized the shared responsibility of Europe and China as major global markets in promoting a reformed trading system based on fairness and equality. They explored the possibility of establishing a monitoring mechanism to prevent potential trade diversions caused by the tariffs, with concerns over China potentially redirecting low-cost exports from the U.S. to Europe.
