Chilean Regulator Suggests Copper Prices Have Reached Their Peak Amid Rising U.S.-China Trade Tensions
/Article

Chile's state copper commission Cochilco announced that copper prices may have reached their peak for the year due to the ongoing trade conflict, particularly as President Trump threatens to increase tariffs on China. Cochilco forecasts that base metal prices, including copper, have likely hit their highest point for 2025. The average copper prices are anticipated to remain above $4 per pound in the current year. However, if the current economic and geopolitical conditions persist, Cochilco warns that their prediction could become less optimistic. Cochilco explains that under such circumstances, demand may decrease, counterbalancing the supply shortage and providing support for the metal price.
