“WTO Complaint: China Challenges New US Tariffs”
/Article

China has lodged a formal complaint with the World Trade Organization against the recent U.S. tariffs, alleging a breach of WTO regulations and seeking talks to address the issue. In response to the escalating trade war with President Donald Trump, China has imposed retaliatory tariffs of 34% on U.S. products, leading to concerns about a recession and causing turmoil in the global stock markets. The Permanent Mission of China to the World Trade Organization stated that the new tariffs by the U.S. blatantly violate WTO rules. Additionally, China has imposed restrictions on the export of certain rare earths, crucial minerals for products like smartphones and electric car batteries. Trump's decision to increase tariffs on China to 54% from the previous 20% has raised tensions further. China has urged the U.S. to revoke the latest tariffs, while the WTO confirmed China's consultation request. If a resolution is not reached within 60 days, China can seek judgment from the WTO's Dispute Settlement Body.
