Exclusive: $5M Dispute with Dr. Khallid Muhammad’s Estate Poses Threat to Tupac Shakur Song
/Article

The Tupac Shakur estate is facing legal action for allegedly using Dr. Khallid Muhammad’s copyrighted speech without permission in the song “White Man’z World.” The lawsuit claims that Shakur's team illegally sampled Muhammad’s speech from a 1993 lecture without obtaining a license or giving credit. The lawsuit targets various entities, including Suge Knight, Interscope Records, Death Row Records, Universal’s publishing arm, and producer Darryl “Big D” Harper. The estate of Dr. Khallid Abdul Muhammad argues that his speech provided emotional weight and political urgency to the song and demands at least $5 million in damages, a permanent injunction to prevent further use of the speech, attorneys’ fees, and impoundment of infringing materials.
