Exclusion of Oil Imports from Trump’s Across-the-Board Tariffs
/Article

The White House announced that imports of oil, gas, and refined products would be excluded from U.S. President Donald Trump's new tariffs. This exemption is seen as a relief for the U.S. oil industry, which was worried that the tariffs could disrupt the flow of energy products and increase costs for various imports. Trump's decision to impose tariffs will affect all imports to the United States, with higher duties targeting major trading partners. However, these tariffs do not impact energy imports from Canada or Mexico, which are already exempt under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement. The exemption also applies to energy imports from other countries. Canada and Mexico are significant sources of imported crude oil, while Europe provides a considerable amount of fuel to the U.S. East Coast.
