Manufacturers in Panic Mode as Liberation Day Approaches
/Article

Since the pandemic disruptions, shippers have been very cautious. In the U.S. manufacturing sector, there have been concerns about economic growth despite the strong fundamentals. For instance, there was an unexpected increase in new orders for durable goods in January, followed by further growth of 0.9% in February, contrary to expectations of a drop. However, the growth in February was affected by a decrease in orders for nondefense aircraft. Excluding transportation orders, core durable goods orders experienced a significant increase of 0.7% in February. Factory orders also saw a growth of 0.6% in February, surpassing expectations. Despite this positive data, U.S. manufacturers remain concerned about tariffs, as indicated by declining sentiment indexes. The sector is experiencing uncertainty due to government policy changes, such as tariffs, potentially leading to customer spending delays and supply chain challenges.
