Too $hort’s older brother, Wayne Shaw, tragically lost his life in a fatal shooting in Oakland, where he was reportedly protecting a suspected marijuana grow operation.
Wayne Shaw, 61, sibling to the renowned rapper Too $hort, met a tragic end in Oakland on Wednesday morning (January 29).
The incident unfolded around 7 A.M. in the vicinity of 1200 block of 49th Avenue near East 12th Street, East Oakland.
Allegedly, Shaw was safeguarding the premises of a presumed marijuana grow operation when the unfortunate shooting transpired. It is reported that multiple intruders attempted to breach the property, potentially with intentions of robbery, while Shaw was resting inside the warehouse.
Upon confronting the intruders, Shaw was met with a barrage of gunfire. Responding officers discovered Shaw with severe gunshot wounds. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, the 61-year-old was declared deceased, as confirmed by the police.
The assailants made a swift getaway in an unidentified vehicle, with no arrests made at present.
On the scene, markers and shell casings were strewn along the sidewalk outside the warehouse and across 49th Avenue, as disclosed by KTVU.
In close proximity, an abandoned Honda Civic, bearing marks of gunfire, was found at 50th Avenue and International Boulevard. Authorities linked this vehicle to Shaw’s case, with the owner revealing it had been stolen the night before the tragic incident.
Authorities are delving into the warehouse investigation and Shaw’s association with the property.
