A Senate investigative subcommittee in the U.S. is launching a probe into Meta Platforms' attempts to penetrate the Chinese market and has requested documents from the company. The chair of the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, Senator Ron Johnson, along with Senators Richard Blumenthal and Josh Hawley, have inquired Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg about accusations claiming that the company developed censorship tools for the Chinese Communist Party to facilitate its entry into the Chinese market. The senators have set a deadline of April 21 for Meta to provide detailed records, including all communications or meeting logs with Chinese government representatives since 2014.
