Meta Platforms' head of AI research, Joelle Pineau, is set to leave the company as it intensifies its focus on AI competition and investment. After eight years with Meta and leading the Fundamental AI Research group (FAIR) from 2023, Pineau announced her departure on May 30 via LinkedIn. She has been instrumental in developing projects like PyTorch, FAISS, Roberta, Dino, Llama, SAM, Codegen, and Audiobox, utilized by numerous teams for product development. Pineau expressed the need for new talent to take over in the evolving AI landscape as Meta adapts for its next phase. In the past year, the tech giant restructured its AI division to consolidate research efforts, embed advanced AI across its offerings, and enhance technological innovation.
