Samsung Electronics Names Mobile Chief as Interim Head of Consumer and Smartphone Division

Samsung Electronics has appointed Roh Tae-moon, who was previously in charge of the mobile business, as the interim head of the consumer and smartphone division. This move came after the passing of the former leader, Han Jong-Hee, who also held the position of co-CEO at the company. With Han's sudden death, Jun Young-hyun became the sole leader overseeing Samsung's operations amidst efforts to revitalize its struggling chip sector and confront heightened competition and trade challenges.

The company clarified that a decision has not been made regarding maintaining the co-CEO structure going forward. Roh, aged 56, has been credited with driving innovation in the smartphone market by introducing AI and foldable phones to address market shifts and intensifying competition.

Roh is tasked with supervising the DX division, encompassing TV, home appliance, and smartphone sectors, to address leadership gaps. To bolster the mobile division, Samsung also appointed Choi Won-joon, a former Qualcomm executive, as the new chief operating officer, and handed the reins of the digital appliance business to Kim Cheol-gi, who previously led the DX division's marketing arm.

Samsung's reshuffle aims to ensure continuity and strategic direction in key business segments following recent leadership changes.
