SpaceX is preparing to establish a ground station in Vietnam for its Starlink satellites, with plans to set up multiple stations in the country. This development signals SpaceX's entry into Vietnam and would assist authorities in monitoring internet traffic. The Vietnamese government has permitted Starlink to operate under a five-year pilot program, allowing Elon Musk to maintain full ownership of SpaceX's local subsidiary to bypass strict regulations on foreign ownership. A directive from the prime minister has requested SpaceX to establish at least one ground station in Vietnam, with the possibility of up to 15 stations across the country. The first station could be operational in Danang as early as May or June, forming part of an extensive network. While the plans are in progress, uncertainties remain regarding the impact of potential high tariffs threatened by the U.S. administration. Both SpaceX and Vietnam's technology ministry have not commented on the matter. If implemented, Vietnam would host one of the largest Starlink networks globally, enhancing internet accessibility in the country. Talks are ongoing for Starlink to provide secure intranet communication services, although official approval for this service is pending. The investment for the ground station in central Vietnam is estimated to be around $3 million.
