Business Groups in Michigan Warn of Vehicle Price Increases and Autoworker Hardships Due to Trump’s Proposed 25% Auto Tariffs

Two business organizations from Michigan have appealed to President Donald Trump to reconsider his decision to implement extensive 25% tariffs on imported vehicles and components. They argue that such tariffs would result in substantial price increases, disruptions in the supply chain, and difficulties for the state that heavily relies on the automotive industry.

The Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce and MichAuto, an association focused on automotive and mobility, emphasized that the rise in costs would disrupt the entire supply chain and notably raise prices for American consumers. They highlighted that Michigan, where a significant portion of jobs are related to the automotive sector, would experience profound hardships for its working-class population.
