Marlon Wayans has announced that he, along with his brothers, will be writing and starring in Scary Movie 6, which is set to bring back the original R-rated humor in 2026.

Marlon Wayans is leading the return of the Scary Movie series with a new installment planned for release in 2026. Reuniting with his brothers Shawn and Keenen Ivory, they aim to revive the franchise's initial tone and R-rated comedy that first captivated audiences nearly a quarter of a century ago.

The Wayans siblings, who launched the franchise in 2000, will be back to write and feature in the upcoming film, with Marlon and Shawn reprising their iconic roles as Shorty and Ray. Dave Sheridan is also set to return as Doofy, the goofy cop unmasked as the killer in the initial installment.

Expressing their approach, Marlon mentioned, "We're going all out with an R-rating. We're bringing back the same enjoyable and distinctive Wayans style that we delivered in the first movie."

The first two Scary Movie movies, helmed by Keenen Ivory, gained significant success by parodying horror classics such as Scream, The Blair Witch Project, and I Know What You Did Last Summer.

With the departure of the Wayans brothers following the 2001 sequel, the franchise continued with three additional films released in 2003, 2006, and 2013. Marlon expressed that these later films lacked the original essence and assured fans that the new installment would reintroduce that special spark.

In a statement to Deadline in October, the brothers expressed their excitement about rejoining forces for the new Scary Movie, stating, "We are thrilled to be part of the new Scary Movie and collaborate with each other once again. This is a franchise we brought to life over two decades ago. We remember the audience laughing in the theaters and hope to evoke that same reaction again."

While no further casting details have been revealed, fans can anticipate the release of Scary Movie 6 in 2026.
