Director Lee Jung Sub, known for his work on the movie 'Real' in 2017, has addressed the controversy surrounding a nude scene featuring the late singer and actress Sulli in the film. This comes after Sulli’s family requested a formal response from actor Kim Soo Hyun's team regarding the circumstances surrounding the scene.
In a statement on March 28, Lee clarified through his personal account, referencing a tweet he had posted earlier about the change in director during the movie's production. He emphasized that he bore no responsibility for the final outcome of the film, expressing relief now that it has been released despite the past discussions surrounding it.
Sulli’s brother, Mr. Choi, shared information through Kwon Young Chan, head of the Korea Entertainment Suicide Prevention Association, that he first heard concerning details about the nude scene during Sulli's funeral in 2019. Allegedly, there were suspicions about a body double being present on set during the scene, contrary to explanations suggesting the absence of the double due to illness.
Choi raised questions demanding clarity, such as whether the explicit bed scene was initially in the script, Kim Soo Hyun's stance on it, the reason for not using the body double supposedly available, and whether Sulli was coerced into performing the nude scene.
The film 'Real' is a noir action movie revolving around a conflict between two individuals fighting over Asia's largest casino. Originally directed by Lee Jung Sub, the film saw a change in director during post-production, with Lee Sa Rang, Kim Soo Hyun's cousin and head of the production company, taking over to finish the movie due to creative disagreements.
Now, after eight years since its release, 'Real' faces renewed public attention linked to Kim Soo Hyun. The director, Lee Jung Sub, has broken his silence following renewed discussion about Sulli’s scene. In addition, he has criticized Kim Soo Hyun over recent claims of a romantic involvement with the late actress Kim Sae Ron when she was a minor.
Kim Soo Hyun is currently entangled in allegations of dating Kim Sae Ron since 2015 when she was just 16 years old. The late actress's family made these assertions through a YouTube channel, later releasing images of the couple. Initially denied by Kim’s agency, the relationship's start date was later revised to 2019, after Kim Sae Ron reached adulthood, in response to the photos.
In another development, MBN has canceled the audition program 'Under 15' following a controversy related to child abuse.
