Sean Kingston and his mother, Janice Turner, were found guilty of wire fraud in Florida for orchestrating a fraudulent scheme that deceived vendors with counterfeit payments to obtain luxury items.
Sean Kingston and Janice Turner were convicted by a jury in Fort Lauderdale federal court for their involvement in a scam where they used fake wire transfers to defraud vendors of luxury goods worth around $1 million.
After five days of trial, the jury unanimously convicted both Sean Kingston and Janice Turner on charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and multiple counts of wire fraud.
Prosecutors stated that the mother-son duo employed false bank documents to swindle vendors into providing high-end products, such as a Cadillac Escalade valued at $160,000, jewelry worth $500,000, and an $86,000 luxury bed.
Evidence presented in court included text messages showing Sean Kingston directing his mother to create fake payment confirmations.
Records indicate that in addition to defrauding vendors, they also cheated banks out of over $300,000.
The fraudulent activities came to light in May 2024 when Sean Kingston was apprehended during a performance in California, while Janice Turner was arrested during a police raid at Kingston’s rented home in Florida later that week.
Following the verdict, Janice Turner, who had previously served a 16-month sentence for a 2005 bank fraud conviction, was immediately detained.
Sean Kingston is currently placed under house arrest.
Sentencing for the duo is slated for July 11, with each count carrying a potential maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
