Automobile Manufacturers caution that proposed Trump tariffs will increase prices and reduce vehicle purchases

A coalition representing leading automakers like General Motors, Toyota, and Volkswagen has cautioned that President Donald Trump's proposed 25% tariffs on imported vehicles, set to be enforced next week, will negatively impact American consumers. The Alliance for Automotive Innovation, fronted by John Bozzella, emphasized that the new tariffs will escalate costs for consumers, diminish the volume of vehicles sold in the U.S., and lessen U.S. auto exports, without necessarily leading to new manufacturing or job opportunities in the country. This message was conveyed in a statement by the group, which encompasses all major automakers.
