Toyota’s Worldwide Production Increases for Second Consecutive Month in February Due to Strong Sales in Japan

Toyota Motor announced that its worldwide production increased in February for the second consecutive month, driven by higher output and sales in Japan following a certification scandal last year. The company's global output grew by 6% to 779,790 vehicles compared to the previous year, with a notable 16% increase in domestic production and a marginal less than 1% rise in other countries.

However, Toyota experienced a 1% drop in production in North America, as well as a decrease of 1% in car shipments from Japan to the United States. Despite this, the company's global revenue saw a 6% growth, supported by a 28% surge in domestic sales and a 2% increase in overseas sales.

President Donald Trump recently announced a 25% tariff on imported cars and light trucks, which is set to take effect on April 3, causing global uncertainty among investors regarding supply chain disruptions, reduced investment, and the potential impact on global economic growth.

In North America, Toyota witnessed a 7% decline in sales, which was attributed to fewer operating days and a shortage of hybrid and other vehicle inventories, although the demand for its vehicles remained strong. The production and sales figures also include their luxury Lexus brand.
