Jennifer Salke will be leaving her position as the head of Amazon MGM Studios, as announced in an internal email seen by the Times. Although she is stepping down, Salke will be launching a new production company that has a deal with Amazon MGM Studios for film and television projects, according to a memo from Mike Hopkins, her superior.

In the email addressed to the staff, Salke expressed her confidence that the groundwork laid during her tenure has positioned Amazon MGM Studios for continued success. Having joined Amazon Studios in 2018 from NBC Entertainment, Salke played a vital role in the company's expansion beyond e-commerce into the entertainment industry.

Key Amazon productions for Prime Video under her leadership have included projects like "The Rings of Power," "Fallout," "Reacher," "Nickel Boys," and "The Idea of You." Despite initial doubts from the film industry due to her television background, Salke has played a significant role in Amazon's growth in the entertainment sector.

Following Amazon's acquisition of MGM Studios in 2022, Salke's departure will not be filled with a new appointment. Instead, the film and TV divisions will now report directly to Mike Hopkins, streamlining the leadership structure. This move aligns with Amazon's ongoing efforts to optimize its operational hierarchy.

Hopkins, who joined Amazon in 2020 to oversee Prime Video, previously held leadership roles at Hulu and Sony Pictures Entertainment. His arrival at Amazon marked a shift in the hierarchy, reducing Salke's authority while still allowing her involvement in projects like "Reacher," "The Boys," and "Mr. & Mrs. Smith.".sessful in the long run.
