Walgreen Settles US Overbilling Charges, Agrees to Pay Over $2.85 Million
/Article

Walgreen has agreed to pay over $2.85 million to settle allegations made by a whistleblower that the pharmacy chain overcharged Medicaid programs in Georgia and Massachusetts for generic drugs. This agreement is a partial resolution to the claims filed against Walgreens Boots Alliance under the federal, Georgia, and Massachusetts False Claims Act. According to the allegations, Walgreen pharmacies had been submitting inflated prices for generic medications to MassHealth and Georgia Medicaid from 2008 to 2023, resulting in these programs paying more than necessary for the medications.
