The U.S. Department of Justice has announced the establishment of a deregulatory task force to address regulations that may negatively impact competition, particularly in industries that directly impact consumers. The Anticompetitive Regulations Task Force will seek input from various stakeholders, including businesses, consumers, and advocacy groups, on regulations at both state and federal levels that hinder competition. Abigail Slater, who heads the DOJ's antitrust division, stated that the task force is in line with President Trump's goal of reducing regulations. Slater emphasized the division's commitment to challenging barriers to competition, whether they stem from public regulations or private monopolies.
