South Africa's United National Transport Union (UNTU) has rejected a wage offer put forward by the state-owned logistics group Transnet, despite another union, the South African Transport and Allied Workers' Union (SATAWU), signing the deal for a three-year pay agreement. The agreement with SATAWU includes 6% wage increases in the first two years and a 5.5% raise in the third year. UNTU, representing over half of Transnet's workforce, declared a deadlock in the negotiations, demanding a 10% across-the-board increase and a one-year agreement. UNTU expressed readiness to mobilize its 25,000-plus members to seek a fair deal. Transnet is optimistic that its offer will be accepted by all employees, considering it fair and reasonable given the company's financial and operational challenges.
