Foxconn is organizing a seminar in Japan on April 9 to present its electric vehicle strategy to potential Japanese partners, according to two insiders. The Taiwanese company, known for manufacturing Apple iPhones and Nvidia AI servers, is looking to expand its presence in the EV market by engaging with automakers and suppliers in Japan. Jun Seki, the Chief EV Strategy Officer, is anticipated to discuss the strategy during the event. The seminar is part of Foxconn's efforts to establish collaborations with Japanese automakers following a recent deal secured with Mitsubishi Motors.

The partnership with Mitsubishi represents a significant development in Japan's automotive industry, which faces competition from agile Chinese EV manufacturers like BYD. The outsourcing agreement with Mitsubishi entails manufacturing EVs for distribution in Oceania markets, including Australia, as reported by sources familiar with the matter. This deal underlines Foxconn's successful progression into the EV sector over the past five years, solidifying its manufacturing capabilities within the automotive industry.

Foxconn's EV joint venture, Foxtron, in collaboration with Yulon, has been serving Luxgen as a key client in Taiwan. The Mitsubishi contract is seen as a step towards compliance with local environmental regulations, with plans to sell the EVs in New Zealand and Taiwan, according to insiders. This development signifies a positive advancement for Foxconn's EV endeavors, contrasting previous unsuccessful ventures with other companies.
