An insider disclosed that the Chinese electric truck startup, Windrose, is upping its final funding round to $300 million for expanding its operations by establishing additional assembly plants in Europe and the United States. The company had initially targeted $200 million in a mix of equity investments and debt for this round. Additionally, Windrose is contemplating a $400 million initial public offering in the U.S. this year, a figure twice the amount previously aimed for. Multiple assembly plant locations have been chosen, with one each in the U.S., France, and Belgium, varying in size and each featuring a dedicated research and development team. Moreover, there are plans to set up a larger second manufacturing facility in the U.S., with specific locations still under consideration. Windrose is striving for a global production capacity exceeding 10,000 trucks per year by 2027, with intentions to establish assembly plants in Georgia and Belgium where chassis and other vehicle parts manufactured in China will be assembled. Windrose's heavy truck is positioned as a direct competitor to Tesla's Semi, priced similarly at approximately $250,000. The trucks will be equipped with over 700 kilowatt-hour battery packs, offering a range of more than 670 kilometers (418 miles) when fully loaded at 49 metric tons. As of now, Windrose has not responded to requests for comments on the matter.
